The goal of business coaches is to dispel the fears and misconceptions about self-employment, to clarify their client’s lifestyle goals, and to provide a systematic approach to help make the dream of business ownership a reality. Sylvie Giguere is filled with a passion to reach out and help other people. As a business coach and consultant with The Entrepreneur’s Source, it doesn’t take long to see that this is a woman who has found her true calling.

Trained as an architect in her native Montreal, Giguere’s initiation to the world of coaching others came at Bell Canada where she worked in a fast-paced, bilingual sales environment as a team leader. Giguere excelled at her job and was both promoted and rewarded with a trip to the 2000 summer Olympics in Sydney — a fated trip, as it turns out, as it was here where she met her future husband, a man from Nova Scotia.

Although it was clear from the start this relationship was a special one, Giguere had previously been headhunted for a demanding position to direct a team of employees at one of the largest telecommunications companies in Ireland. She fulfilled her year’s contract before making the leap and moving to Nova Scotia. She has lead and managed in top 100 companies such has Bell Canada Ent. CIBC and NT:L Ireland.

Now living in Waverley with her husband and seven-year-old daughter, Giguere decided to make another leap — this one into the world of business ownership.

It was by experiencing herself how overwhelming it can be to figure out how to find the right business opportunity that Giguere found The Entrepreneur’s Source. After going through the process herself, began to see that this was the perfect fit for her — providing an opportunity to own a business, while still being able to motivate and work with others.

Working as a coach for other prospective business owners is both challenging and rewarding, Giguere says. “My role is to help people realize that if they can dream it, they can have it. The trick is for them to stay open all the way through the process.”

For her part, Giguere says, it’s not about making sure she finds a match for one of her clients with a franchise operation. It’s about helping people figure out what it is they really want to be doing. One client that stands out for her is a man who went through the coaching process and decided business ownership wasn’t for him after all.

“He went back to school to go into full-time ministry and he said he wouldn’t have had the courage to do that if it weren’t for going through this process. That, for me, was extremely rewarding,” she says. “I love that moment when people realize that they are stronger than they think they are.”

Giguere’s coaching work all takes place in a series of one-hour phone sessions. With clients all across North America, she says some clients can take as long as six months to go through the process, although most complete the work in an average of three months.
